Allied Health and Technical/Physician Extender/Assistant (PA)


PHYSICIAN EXTENDER - 2908

Requires graduation from a Physician Assistant program approved by the NC Board of Medical Examiners and "approved to practice medical acts" based on education and experience by the Board of Medical Examiners, and preferably one year of experience as an extender; or licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Board of Nursing, graduation from a Nurse Practitioner Program approved by the NC Joint Subcommittee of the Board of Nursing and Board of Medical Examiners, and "approved to practice medical acts" based on education and experience by the Joint Subcommittee, and preferably one year of experience as an extender; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    • Full-time, Days, 40hrs/week
      This position will further integrate the general hepatology transplant hepatology clinics and the viral hepatities clinics with the research clinics where the studies are performed. Primary function of this position is to evaluate patients with chronic liver disease, determine eligibility for research studies, and assist with their management during treatment.

    • Full-time, Days, 40hrs/week
      SOM SURG-Thoracic Surgery The primary purpose of this position is to assist the attending thoracic surgeons in patient care by using an in-depth knowledge of cardio/thoracic care in the in-patient, out-patient and OR settings. This position will work in a University teaching hospital specifically with the Division of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery in the Department of Surgery. The Thoracic surgery service provides care for patients in ambulatory, acute and critical care settings, and interacts with physicians, nurses, health science students and other disciplines in various locations throughout the hospital and medical school, outpatient clinics and community. This position works a flexible schedule based on rounds, conferences, clinic schedules, discharge planning and special assignments in collaboration with the thoracic surgery physicians. This position is expected to perform duties, responsibilities and most assignments with considerable autonomy and self-direction in providing total medical care for patients.
