Requires AA/BA/BS degree in Health Information Technology/related field and AHIMA, AAPC or AAMA certification or RN/LPN license and 36 months of medical coding or acute care experience and successful completion of our Coder Proficiency Test.

      The selected candidate is responsible for concurrent review of inpatient medical records to identify opportunities for improving the quality of medical record documentation for reimbursement, severity of illness, and risk of mortality. The Specialist will confer with the appropriate caregiver on the additional documentation that may be required. The Specialists identifies cases for Physician Advisor intervention and coordinates the physician advisor reviews and educational opportunities with residents and faculty. The Specialists collects statistics from the reviews and maintains accurate records of review activities to document costs and benefits. The Specialists goal is to achieve a complete medical record by the time of patient discharge in order to facilitate and enhance the coding and DRG assignment process. Ensures compliance with third party, and state and federal regulations. Serves as a liaison between the coding staff and physicians. Provides coding and documentation educational opportunities for physicians and coding staff.

Candidate will be responsible for understanding and appropriately interpreting all polices and procedures regarding the legal aspects of The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and how it relates to access to/release of Protected Health Information. Candidate will interact with customers personally and overthe phone. Candidate will utilize Microsoft Access and Excel to create, format and distribute a variety of reports. Candidate will utilize Shared Medical Systems (SMS), SoftMed applications, Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Access to complete tasks. MEDICAL CODER - PHYSICIANS & ASSOCIATES - 4558

Requires AA/BA/BS degree in Health Information Technology/related field or 12 months of medical coding experience or RN/LPN license or CTR certification and AHIMA, AAPC or AAMA certification. Must successfully complete the UNCHC coder proficiency test.

  • BILLINGS/ COLLECTIONS - TEAM B
    • Full-time, Days, , 40hrs/week
      Medical Coder (float)- Responsibilities include: abstracting from the operative reports CPT surgical codes, and assigning Evaluation and Management CPT Code levels for consults and daily inpatient visits; assisting with coder coverage across teams during absences, vacations, and backlogs. The Medical Coder interacts with clinical staff and represents UNC P and A charge process at faculty meetings.
